The Triad
Flight of Honor is a service project of
Rotary District 7690, which includes
the 11 county region of Piedmont North
Carolina. Rotarians and other community
organizations and businesses are united to
honor World War II veterans for their
courage, valor and sacrifice to our country.
Our WW II
veterans once numbered 16 million, however,
we are now losing nearly 1,200 per day. Many
never got to visit their WW II Memorial that
opened in Washington, DC in 2004. The
veterans who are still with us are now in
their 80's and 90's.
This project
involves flying 100 veterans (at no cost to
them) to Washington, DC from the Piedmont
Triad Airport in Greensboro on a US Airways
charter plane for a one-day tour of the
memorials. In addition to the veterans, 33
volunteer guardians, a flight doctor, 2
EMT’s, and team leaders will be on the plane
to assist our veterans throughout the day.
